Prices correct as at 5 October 2026. Written on 6 October 2026.

At Wainwrights Accountants, our prices start from £20 a month + VAT (£24 including VAT) for a landlord or a personal tax return, £60 a month + VAT for a sole trader, £70 for a partnership and £80 for a limited company or LLP. This guide sets out what changes a price, what we quote separately and what to check in any quote. We can only speak for our own prices: every firm sets its own. We’re based in Bromborough, Wirral, and work with clients across the UK.

Business prices are based on no employees and not being VAT registered. Every price is indicative and subject to turnover not exceeding £150,000. See our pricing page for the full price table.

What changes the price of an accountant?

At Wainwrights, five things change your price:

  • VAT registration. If you are VAT registered, VAT return submissions are included in the higher starting price.
  • Employees. Prices with employees include monthly payroll. Each employee after the first adds £5 a month + VAT.
  • Extra properties. Each rental property after the first adds £5 a month + VAT (£6 including VAT).
  • Making Tax Digital. Compliance support for sole traders and landlords adds £35 a month + VAT (£42 including VAT). It covers sending your four quarterly updates.
  • A registered office address. For limited companies, £60 + VAT a year.

Turnover matters too. Our published prices are subject to turnover not exceeding £150,000. Above that, our team will give you a custom quote.

What should you check in any accountant’s quote?

Six things make two quotes comparable. For each one, this is our answer.

  • Is VAT included? Our prices are shown + VAT. Landlord and personal tax return prices also show the figure including VAT, at the 20% standard rate.
  • Which tax returns are included? Each of our packages lists them: one Self Assessment tax return for a sole trader, a director or a single landlord, and two for joint landlords and partnerships.
  • Is software included? Our limited company, sole trader, partnership and LLP packages list cloud bookkeeping software and AI receipt capture.
  • Are VAT returns and payroll included? With us, yes, in the packages for VAT registered businesses and for businesses with employees.
  • Is there a minimum term? With us, no.
  • Who will you deal with? Every client has their own dedicated accountant, backed by the rest of the team.

What is quoted separately?

Anything outside your package is a service we provide and add to your quote. We do not publish a figure for these, because the work depends on your circumstances:

  • payroll on its own
  • bookkeeping, including catch-up bookkeeping
  • company formation
  • company secretarial work, such as confirmation statements
  • CIS, for contractors and subcontractors
  • workplace pension support, P11Ds and PAYE registration
  • 60-day Capital Gains Tax returns when a landlord sells a property
  • moving your records over from an old system

See all our services.

Is the price you see the price you pay?

Not until we have confirmed it. The prices on our website are indicative. You fill in our quote form, we call you, and our team confirms the scope of the work and your final price before you start.

A quote costs nothing and does not commit you to anything. There is no minimum term, and you pay monthly by Direct Debit or by card.

How much does an accountant cost for a sole trader?

From £60 a month + VAT at Wainwrights, for a sole trader with no employees who is not VAT registered. If you are VAT registered the price starts from £110 a month + VAT and includes your VAT return submissions. With employees it starts from £80, and from £130 if you are VAT registered as well.

The price includes year end accounts, one Self Assessment tax return, tax efficiency planning, cloud bookkeeping software and AI receipt capture. If you are new to self-employment, registering you with HMRC is included too. See our sole trader accountant service.

How much does an accountant cost for a limited company?

From £80 a month + VAT, for a company with no employees that is not VAT registered. A VAT registered company starts from £130 a month + VAT. A company with employees starts from £100, and from £150 if it is VAT registered as well.

The price includes year end accounts, the corporation tax return, the director’s Self Assessment tax return, tax efficiency planning, cloud bookkeeping software and AI receipt capture. See our limited company accountants page.

How much does an accountant cost for a partnership or an LLP?

A partnership starts from £70 a month + VAT and an LLP from £80, each with no employees and not VAT registered. VAT registration takes those to £120 and £130. With employees they start from £90 and £100, or £140 and £150 if VAT registered as well.

Two partners’ Self Assessment tax returns are included, and each further partner’s return is quoted. For a partnership we prepare the Partnership Tax Return and quote for it separately. For an LLP it is included. Registering a new LLP at Companies House is a quoted extra. See our partnership services.

How much does an accountant cost for a landlord or a personal tax return?

From £20 a month + VAT (£24 including VAT) for a single owner with one property. Joint owners start from £25 a month + VAT (£30 including VAT), which includes two Self Assessment tax returns. Each property after the first adds £5 a month + VAT (£6 including VAT).

For example, joint owners with three properties pay £35 a month + VAT (£42 including VAT), before any Making Tax Digital support.

A personal Self Assessment tax return for an individual is also from £20 a month + VAT (£24 including VAT). You can pay for it monthly or annually. See our landlord accounts and Self Assessment pages.
