Birkenhead
Doing business in Birkenhead
Birkenhead is Wirral's biggest town, with almost 110,000 people at the 2021 census, and much of it is changing. The council's Birkenhead 2040 Framework sets out 20 years of regeneration, from Wirral Waters on the old docks to new homes and the planned Dock Branch Park.
For local businesses, that means new limited companies, contractors and subcontractors working under CIS on building projects, landlords letting flats and terraced houses across Oxton, Claughton and Rock Ferry, and shops and cafés around Grange Road and the Pyramids. We look after all of them, with monthly prices set out on this page.
Birkenhead's history is never far away. Hamilton Square, laid out from 1825 to a design by James Gillespie Graham, has one of England's largest groups of Grade I listed buildings. Birkenhead Park, opened in 1847, influenced the design of New York's Central Park, and Cammell Laird's shipyard is still at work on the Mersey.
